GIA Announces Closure of Ramat Gan Laboratory
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced that it will close its laboratory in Ramat Gan, Israel, by the end of 2024. This decision follows a continued decline in diamond submissions and reflects broader global industry challenges.
As a result of these challenges, GIA will continue to support its Israeli clients through other global locations.
“Israel remains a key hub for specialized diamond cutting and polishing,” said GIA President and CEO Susan Jacques, emphasizing that GIA will continue supporting Israeli clients through other GIA locations.
Diamonds currently at the Ramat Gan facility will be returned to clients with their requested GIA reports. Starting November 17, 2024, while the Ramat Gan laboratory will remain open for submissions, all diamonds will be routed to other GIA labs for processing.
Additionally, GIA is working on establishing a third-party submission process for walk-in clients in Israel. Further details on this service, which will allow diamonds to be shipped to other GIA labs, will be provided soon.
