GJSCI’s Winner of Medallion of Excellence, Master Tufan Mal at the World Skills Competition 2024.
The Gem and Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) has yet again made the nation proud by bagging the prestigious Medallion of Excellence Award at the World Skills Competition, Lyon – France, 2024. The competition, held in Lyon, France, witnessed participants from over 80 countries vying for top honors in various skill categories.

GJSCI’s talented candidate, this year Tufan Mal, is only 17 years of age and hails from a small town in Howrah District of West Bengal. His family struggled to make ends meet which compelled Tufan to take up any occupation to contribute to the family income. He came across an opportunity in a jewellery manufacturing set-up. He developed an interest and became proficient at the skill of jewellery making.
He had an opportunity to meet Mr. Anupam Karmakar, who represents GJSCI as their WorldSkills expert came across this lad and seen great talent in him. Mr. Karmakar guided the boy and encouraged him to register for the IndiaSkills preliminary round.
His talent was unbeatable and his ranks helped him make it to the IndiaSkills Finals. He represented India through GJSCI at the WorldSkills Competition in Jewellery Making and showcased exceptional skill, craftsmanship, and innovation to win the coveted Medallion of Excellence Award. His outstanding performance has brought laurels to the country and reinforced India’s position as a hub for skilled artisans in the Gem and Jewellery sector.
