India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Premiere 2024 Breaks Records with USD 12 Billion in Business

The India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Premiere 2024, organized by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), has shattered records by generating a staggering USD 12 billion in business over its six-day run. Held from August 8-12 at the Jio World Convention Centre and from August 9-13 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO Goregaon, Mumbai, this event is one of the world’s largest B2B gem and jewellery shows.

Record-Breaking Exhibition at IIJS Premiere 2024

The 40th edition of IIJS Premiere embraced the theme “Brilliant Bharat,” featuring an expansive exhibition area of 135,000 square meters (1.45 million square feet), surpassing many prominent Western shows. With over 3,600 stalls and 2,100 exhibitors, the event drew more than 50,000 buyers and welcomed 15 international delegations from 13 countries.

Concurrent Machinery Expo: IGJME Premiere 2024

Running alongside IIJS Premiere was the IGJME Premiere, a significant machinery and allied expo held from August 9-13 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. The expo showcased over 220 companies and 320 stalls, including an Italy Pavilion that highlighted global participation and technological advancements in the industry.

Key Highlights and Policy Announcements

Mr. Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, visited IIJS Premiere on August 10, announcing the reintroduction of the Diamond Imprest Licence. He also discussed recent budget changes affecting gold, silver, and platinum duties and urged exporters to remain optimistic despite global economic challenges.

Goyal emphasized India’s active role in international negotiations, including discussions with the G7 and EU Ministers, and expressed hopes for establishing a diamond trading center in Mumbai or Surat similar to Antwerp. He also addressed efforts with De Beers and the Kimberley Process to improve diamond tracing.

Mr. Vipul Shah, Chairman of GJEPC, hailed IIJS Premiere 2024 as a tremendous success, reflecting a shift towards innovative and creative designs for millennials and Gen Z. The inauguration at Jio World Convention Centre was graced by Hon. Governor of Maharashtra Mr. C. P. Radhakrishnan and Dr. Harshdeep Kamble, IAS, Principal Secretary (Industries). They highlighted future plans for a new industrial policy and a larger exhibition center.

The Select Club, a major attraction at IIJS Premiere 2024, saw a significant increase in participating brands, reaching 101. This growth signifies the Club’s commitment to showcasing luxury and design excellence, with a focus on maintaining high standards and promoting sustainability.
