Ari Epstein, CEO of Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), announced his resignation after 13 years of leadership.
The reasons for his departure and the timeline for appointing a successor are undisclosed. AWDC President Isidore Mörsel praised Epstein’s visionary leadership, attributing unparalleled growth and innovation under his tenure. However, the organization faces scrutiny due to recent events, including G7 sanctions on Russian diamonds and EU import bans, causing delays and complaints within the industry.
Concerns also arise regarding proposals mandating all rough diamonds to pass through Antwerp. This follows a series of leadership changes over the past two years, with Mörsel succeeding David Gotlib, who followed Chaim Pluczenik.
