Natural Polished Diamonds are Now Carbon-Negative: SRK Sets Another Historic Sustainability Benchmark in the Diamond World

By becoming the first company to craft carbon-negative natural diamonds, SRK redefines what responsible luxury looks like.
Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), one of the world’s most trusted names in natural diamond crafting, has announced a historic milestone. SRK has become the first company in the global diamond industry to achieve a negative carbon footprint per carat.
In other words, SRK’s diamond-making process is now climate-positive—a major breakthrough for the global luxury industry.
The announcement comes on June 25 2025- World Decarbonisation Day, a global reminder that every industry must do its part to reduce carbon footprints. It is a day to celebrate progress, share solutions, and move together toward a cleaner, greener future.

A 2024 Bain & Company report shows that over 65% of luxury buyers now factor sustainability into their purchasing decisions. Sustainability-linked luxury products are growing 2.5x faster than the rest of the market. Similarly, a joint McKinsey & Business of Fashion study confirms that Gen Z and millennial buyers prioritize responsible sourcing and climate alignment when evaluating brands.
At a time when the luxury industry is embracing greener practices—from carbon-neutral fashion to sustainable packaging—SRK’s milestone reminds again that natural diamonds are as responsible as they are rare and radiant. It is a shining example of what modern luxury stands for: purpose, progress, and planet-first thinking.
SRK’s journey of over 6 decades is backed by certified numbers. In the past year, SRK has reduced its carbon footprint by over 112% per carat, with the following indicators:
- (-)0.239 kg CO₂e/carat of rough diamond polished
- Across the company’s full operations, the total emissions organizational carbon footprint has dropped to (–)893 MTCO2e — a total climate-positive shift
These figures are verified by the international verification/certification body Deutsch Quality Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd., under global standards ISO 14064-1:2018 (organisational carbon footprint), GHG Protocol, ISO 14067:2018(product carbon footprint) and ISO 14068-1:2023 (Carbon neutrality).
Across thousands of carats, this adds up to a meaningful climate benefit, making SRK’s diamond crafting process not just efficient, but truly climate-positive—a rare benchmark in the global luxury sector.
“At SRK, we have always believed that true luxury isn’t just about what you create—it is about what you contribute, what you give back. Achieving diamond crafting with negative carbon footprints is not just a milestone for us, but a message to the world: beauty and responsibility can, and must, go hand in hand”, says Shreyans Dholakia, Entrepreneur- Brand Custodian, SRK.
To mark this milestone, SRK has released the second edition of its Pure Impact Report—an open, visual, and data-rich summary of its environmental and sustainability efforts. It shares how SRK is building a model where renewable energy, waste reduction, water recycling, and ethical sourcing are not just policies, but part of the company’s culture.
