At the 6th ICC Gems and Jewellery Summit 2024, held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), addressed industry leaders on the transformative strategies shaping India’s gems and jewellery sector for greater global prominence.
Ray highlighted the summit’s theme, “Innovate, Elevate, Globalise,” outlining key initiatives to enhance India’s position in the international market. One of the focal points was the India Jewellery Exposition Centre (IJEX) in Dubai, a key platform for showcasing Indian craftsmanship and strengthening its global presence. Additionally, Ray emphasized GJEPC’s efforts in lab-grown diamonds, offering a sustainable luxury alternative to traditional diamonds and positioning India as a leader in ethical jewellery production.
The India Jewellery Park Mumbai (IJPM), a state-of-the-art facility for jewellery manufacturing, was another key initiative discussed by Ray. The park aims to streamline production processes and promote innovation in the sector. Ray also touched on the role of digital transformation in the industry, highlighting the growing importance of e-commerce, digital tools, and technology to stay competitive in a rapidly changing market.
Ray further spoke on the significance of strategic trade agreements and international collaborations in expanding India’s reach. GJEPC’s focus on sustainability, innovation, and global partnerships is set to reinforce India’s position as a leader in fine jewellery craftsmanship.
Through these initiatives, GJEPC is working to set new industry standards, with the vision of establishing India as the world’s foremost destination for fine, sustainable jewellery.
