Demonstrating the power of collective social responsibility, Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) achieved a historic milestone by collecting a record-breaking 801 units of blood during a single-day blood donation drive held within the Bourse premises on 17 June 2026.

The initiative was organised in response to an urgent appeal from leading hospitals and blood banks across Mumbai, which highlighted a critical shortage of blood supplies. Members of the diamond and jewellery fraternity, industry associations, government officials, employees, trade partners and volunteers came together in large numbers to support the humanitarian cause.

The drive witnessed participation from representatives of Bharat Diamond Bourse, GJEPC, MDMA, cardholders, employees and stakeholders from across the gem and jewellery ecosystem, reflecting the industry’s commitment beyond business and towards community welfare.

Senior government officials who participated in the initiative included Mr. Indraveer Singh, Deputy Commissioner – Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre, BKC, and Mr. Jayesh Prabhakar Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner – Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre, BKC.

The collected blood units were distributed among five leading healthcare institutions:

  • Jaslok Hospital Blood Centre
  • Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital Blood Centre
  • Bhatia Hospital – Mahatma Gandhi Blood Centre (MGBC)
  • Breach Candy Hospital Trust Blood Centre
  • Meenatai Thackeray Blood Centre – BMC

Commenting on the achievement, Mehul Shah, Vice President, BDB, said:

“This staggering achievement is a shining example of the compassion, solidarity, and profound social responsibility that defines the BDB community. When our city’s hospitals sent out an urgent SOS, the humanitarian response from our members and partners was truly overwhelming. These are not just 801 units of blood; they are powerful symbols of hope and humanity that will help transform hundreds of lives.”

Mr. Shah also expressed gratitude to the volunteers, supporters and the BDB Security & Fire Safety Team for successfully managing the large-scale humanitarian initiative.

The record-breaking drive is expected to make a significant impact on healthcare services across Mumbai. With one blood donation capable of benefiting multiple patients through component separation, the 801 units collected have the potential to generate approximately 2,403 life-saving blood components for patients in need.

The initiative stands as one of the most successful social responsibility campaigns undertaken by Bharat Diamond Bourse and highlights the industry’s commitment to supporting society during times of need.
