Reinforcing the close trade relationship between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Shri Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Hon’ble Consul General of India to Dubai, visited the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai to gain first-hand insights into India’s diamond trading ecosystem and the import-export operations that connect the two countries.
The visit reflects the growing strategic importance of the India-UAE diamond trade corridor, with the UAE continuing to be one of India’s largest trading partners in gems and jewellery. According to industry figures, bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$33.51 billion during FY 2025–26.
During his visit to the BDB complex, Shri Reddy was given an overview of the complete diamond supply chain—from the import of rough diamonds to the export of polished stones. He also observed the operations of the Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre (PCCCC), operated by Indian Customs within the Bourse, which facilitates the efficient movement of import and export consignments.
The Consul General interacted with Mehul Shah, Vice President of Bharat Diamond Bourse, along with members of the BDB Committee, to better understand the operational framework of India’s diamond trade and the close business relationship between Mumbai and Dubai.
During the interaction, members of the BDB Committee highlighted the strong commercial ties between diamond companies operating in Mumbai and Dubai and acknowledged the continued support extended by the Indian Embassy in the UAE. The Committee expressed confidence that the Consul General’s visit would further strengthen cooperation and facilitate smoother movement of import-export parcels between the two countries.
Shri Reddy appreciated the world-class infrastructure and systems developed at Bharat Diamond Bourse, as well as the professionalism with which the import-export trade is managed. He also assured the BDB Committee of the continued support of officials at the Indian Embassy in the UAE in promoting trade and facilitating industry requirements.
The visit highlights the growing importance of government-industry engagement in supporting India’s position as one of the world’s leading diamond manufacturing and trading centres while strengthening bilateral trade with the UAE.
