Shri Govind Dholakia Gifts Prime Minister Modi a 2.12-Carat India-Shaped Diamond
A unique tribute to India’s unity and brilliance, crafted by Surat’s finest artisans.
In a heartfelt display of national pride, Govind Dholakia, the Surat-based diamantaire and Rajya Sabha MP, presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an extraordinary India-shaped natural diamond on December 2, 2024. This 2.12-carat diamond, named the “Navbharat Ratna,” is not just a masterpiece of craftsmanship, but also a symbol of the unity, brilliance, and indomitable spirit of India.
The creation of the diamond was no easy feat. Handcrafted by artisans at Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), the diamond took over 3,700 minutes to perfect. Rajeshbhai Kachadiya, an SRK artisan with 14 years of experience, spent a total of 40 hours intricately shaping the diamond into the outline of India. His dedication to the task was compared to the unwavering commitment of a soldier. Additionally, Vishalbhai Italiya, a six-year veteran at SRK, polished the girdle of the diamond over 22 hours, adding the final touches to this stunning creation.
Govind Dholakia, the Founder-Chairman Emeritus of SRK, explained the significance behind the gift, stating, “The Navbharat Ratna is a tribute to the Prime Minister, who we believe is a gem of India. The map of India, carved out of a single natural diamond, symbolizes not just the country’s geography but its unity. This diamond is priceless, not because of its carat, but because it embodies the spirit of India itself.”
The Navbharat Ratna was gifted to PM Modi as a token of appreciation, recognizing his leadership and contribution to the nation. Dholakia added, “Our artisans are the future of India, and it gives me immense pride that the Prime Minister acknowledged their exceptional skills.”
Surat, known as the diamond capital of the world, processes over 90% of the world’s diamonds, a testament to the skill and dedication of India’s artisans. The Navbharat Ratna not only highlights the exceptional craftsmanship of Surat’s diamond industry but also reflects India’s enduring commitment to preserving its rich heritage through the artistry of its people.
This iconic gift captures the essence of India—a land of rich history, culture, and endless potential—and serves as a reminder of the nation’s strength, unity, and brilliance in the global arena.
Conclusion:
The India-shaped diamond presented by Govind Dholakia to Prime Minister Modi is a true symbol of national pride and excellence. As Surat continues to shine as the world’s diamond hub, this gift serves as a shining reminder of the unmatched craftsmanship of India’s artisans and the enduring brilliance of the nation.
