SEEPZ-SEZ Implements Continuous Customs Operations to Enhance Trade Facilitation

Mumbai, India: In a move aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and addressing the pressing concerns of exporters, the Office of the Zonal Development Commissioner, SEEPZ-SEZ, has announced the implementation of 365 days Customs operations at SEEPZ-SEZ, and 24*7 operations at SEEPZ-SEZ.

Earlier the gates were closed from midnight to 4 am. Due to the decision of keeping SEEPZ gates opened for 24*7, the employees will have no time restrictions on their movements.

This initiative follows representations received from various stakeholders within the trade community, highlighting the challenges faced by exporters. Acknowledging the importance of addressing these concerns, the Department recognizes the critical need for streamlined processes to help Indian exporters meet the growing demands of international markets.

To mitigate these issues, it has been decided that SEEPZ-SEZ will now operate continuously, and Customs at SEEPZ will be available on all public holidays and throughout the week as well. This will ensure the timely clearance of goods, providing much-needed support to businesses and facilitating smoother trade operations within the Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Speaking on the development, Zonal Development Commissioner ,  Shri Dnyaneshwar B Patil, IAS said “We are fully committed to fostering a trade-friendly environment in SEEPZ-SEZ. The decision to operate Customs 365 reflects our dedication to addressing the challenges faced by exporters and ensuring that goods are cleared swiftly and efficiently, enabling them to meet global market demands without unnecessary delays.”

This measure is part of the broader strategy to improve India’s trade facilitation infrastructure, enhance the ease of doing business, and support the export-oriented industries in SEEPZ-SEZ. The continuous operations will significantly help exporters gain a competitive edge in the global market.

The Development Commissioner’s office urges all stakeholders to take full advantage of this initiative for improved operational efficiency and seamless trade flows.
